"Forgotten Fire by Adam Bagdasarian. Dorling Kindersly. 2000"
I was privileged to hear Adam Bagdasarian speak at ALA at an USBBY meeting a few years ago. His speech was as powerful as his book. He also talked about a
genetic memory, how the Armenian Holocaust was something he felt strongly even though it didn't happen to him. This provided an epiphony for me as to why I have so much difficulty reading books about the Holocaust, or seeing movies about it. Has anyone mentioned any of the books by Uri Orlev? The translations by Hillel Halken are smooth and quite readable. ISLAND ON BIRD STREET was a Bachelder winner back in the eighties. His books have a balance of authenticity and good literary writing.
