Yesterday I went to amazon.com and started reading reader reviews of Anne Frank, Night, Number the Stars, and Daniel's Story (as they seem to be the most commonly assigned books in school Holocaust units). Noticing that many seemed to be by students done as a school assignment, I resorted them in order to read the "lowest rated first" and that was quite something. There are a few adult ones (including some Holocaust deniers --- just to warn you), but the ones that I really urge you to read are by kids. I think these negative kid reviews are a wake-up call to us as to how removed they can be from this period in history, how muddled their facts can become, and how the adult goal of having them become more knowledgeable, empathetic, and tolerance is far from being achieved.
