DAJ's post keeps coming into my mind re: Poetry on CD's:
Why not create your own? High schools, even many elementary schools, all over the country are putting on wondrous dramatic presentations of plays, musical comedies, etc.
Why not have a pool of young thespians, even mothers and fathers, grandparents, etc., create Poetry CD's, of course FOR SCHOOL USE ONLY and NOT FOR SALE OF ANY KIND, which legally constitute free and fair use.
Teens could produce works for younger children; brilliant adult reader/performers can bring to life works for older children and young adults. Music can be added.
Classic works such as Mother Goose, Longfellow, Whitman, Carroll are all in the public domain. Imagine a rehearsal of "Paul Revere's Ride" before it is ready for a CD with varied voices, sound effects (I can hear the beat of the horse's hoofs!)
WOW!
Set the POETRY TROUPES in action.
And don't tell anyone I told you this!!!
Years ago I had the privilege to hear the great Augusta Baker, a dear friend of mine, read Langston Hughes' "Mother to Son" like no one else had ever read it before. I still hear her in my head after many years. O! to have had this on tape.
