You probably know the web site, and the book. There's also a sequel, called 180 More: Extraordinary Poems for Every Day, also selected by Billy Collins. I really like his choices.
Robert Pinsky, in The Sounds of Poetry: A Brief Guide, wrote, "The hearing knowledge we bring to a line of poetry is a knowledge of patterns in speech we have known to hear since we were infants. Every speaker, intuitively and accurately, courses gracefully through immensely subtle manipulations of sound.... It is almost as if we sing to one another all day."
I don't think there's any "almost" about it.
One more thing: Our library web site is featuring a Poetry Site of The Day. www.librarypoint.org
Peace, Ed
