I read The Tequila Worm and liked it tremendously. The relationships are so warmly and movingly described. Beautifully written and a book I think would work nicely in a school for any sort of coming--of-age unit or perhaps memoir as it based so much on the author's own experiences. Or just as an independent read too about young people growing up and moving out and apart from family and friends yet staying close too.
I've just read The Book Thief which also has as one of its themes tight family and friend relationships albeit in a very different time and place.
