I first encountered "Le Petit Nicholas" in my college French discussion class
(circa 1987). I didn't realize at the time that we were using a book so familiar to French children. When "Nicholas" won the Batchelder, I realized it was for the same book I was remembered from college . . . and was delighted. I wonder if others were introduced to the book this way? I haven't seen the English translation yet, but I am looking forward to finding it.
