THE SIXTH ANNUAL WESTPORT LIBRARY RABBIT HILL FESTIVAL OF LITERATURE: Drawing Inspiration from the World Around Us
Award-winning authors and illustrators Cari Best, Bryan Collier, Bruce Degen, Kathy Jakobsen, Loren Long, and Melissa Sweet will offer talks and workshops on Saturday, April 1, 2006 in a symposium sponsored by Westport Public Library in Westport, Connecticut and open to all who are interested in children and their books.
The Rabbit Hill Festival is named in honor of Robert Lawson, a longtime Westport resident and author/illustrator of the Newbery award-winner Rabbit Hill and Caldecott winner They Were Strong and Good. Lawson also illustrated the classic picture book, The Story of Ferdinand, and wrote and illustrated many other childhood favorites including Ben and Me.
The festival begins on Thursday evening, March 30 with Sharon McQueen's presentation on The Story of 'The Story of Ferdinand.' A tour of the Weston Woods Studios is available on Friday as well as a lecture on a unique exhibit of paintings and drawings by James Daugherty and a dinner with the authors and illustrators.
This festival is free to participants thanks to a generous contribution from a former owner of the Lawson homestead. A small donation is requested to help promote future festivals.
For more information and registration go to: www.rabbithillfestival.com or contact Connie Rockman, Program Coordinator, connie.rock at snet.net.
