Looking for Alaska seemed to have a buzz about it early on. My agent sent me an advance readers copy and told me I should read it to see what the best in the field are doing (and no, she's not his agent).

At first I was put off by the idea it was set at a boarding school, which was far removed from anything I have had personal experience with.

But when I started reading the book, I really enjoyed it. It was heart-breaking and hilarious, all at once.
I still remember how my heart dropped when a large amount of time passed (judging by how few days there were "before") and I realized we were right on the brink of something bad happening.

This book had the ring of truth, and judging by the comments on Amazon is based on truth. I did wonder if the sex might make it problematic in any way for teens, say, as a high school reading assignment.
