What a rich Newbery discussion over the past week! I'm sure there many of us are still thinking and reflecting on much of what has been observed and asked. Thank you to all who contributed.
Today we turn our attention to the 2006 Printz Award winner and honor books, which are chosen in recognition of literary excellence in literature for young adults (defined by the Young Adult Library Services Association as ages 12 through 18).
For more information on the Printz Award, including terms and criteria, go to:
http://www.ala.org/ala/yalsa/booklistsawards/printzaward/Printz,_Michael_L__Award.htm
As for the 2006 Printz titles, they are:
Winner: Looking for Alaska by John Green. Dutton, 2005
Honor Books
Black Juice by Margo Lanagan. Eos / HarperCollins, 2005 I Am the Messenger by Markus Zusak. U.S. edition: Alfred A. Knopf, 2005 John Lennon: All I Want Is the Truth by Elizabeth Partridge. Viking, 2005 A Wreath for Emmett Till by Marilyn Nelson. Illustrated by Philippe Lardy. Houghton Mifflin, 2005
As is so often the case, each of these books could each lend themselves to a week of discussion. But we have a week to consider all five. Let's begin!
