After I read Criss Cross, I told my co-workers that it was the best book I ever read that didn't have a plot.
However, there are many vignettes in the book that I will never forget, namely Debbie and Peter's adventures taking the bus a few stops out of town, Hector's crush on Meadow and Debbie's description of her piano teacher's life story.
Overall, I thought the book was distinguished in the field of books this year and did deserve the accolades it received.
