I agree with most of the others who have posted so far that "Criss Cross" is very sophisticated and stands above the average children's book, however, I found it very dense and inaccessible (even alienating). And in the end, not very much fun to read.
I would be very interested to know what the actual target audience thinks of the book? My sense is that it is mostly adults who are reading it and enjoying it.
