As an author, I try and write as authentically as possible. When I win an award I'm pleased but trying to create something to win a specific award is as fruitless as trying to write a sure-fire money-maker. Today's publishers consider the opinions of the book clubs, the marketing department, the sales department etc. before signing a book. I'm not sure that they are doing better than in the old days when only an author and an editor had to agree to do a project. Vicki Cobb
