Hello, My students and I are SO THRILLED that "our author," Suzanne Bloom, received a Geisel Honor Award for her book A SPLENDID FRIEND, INDEED!

Suzanne visited our school in November, and this book in particular is one of our favorites -- precisely because every child feels that she can read it. The illustrations are a luscious part of the experience of this book, in my opinion. And it captures kids' imagination and curiosity; one second grader asked, "If the goose is an herbivore, and the polar bear is an carnivore, why doesn't the bear EAT the goose?" Suzanne Bloom answered, "I like to keep a little tension between characters."
