[CCBC-Net] Show Way

I was delighted that the Newbery team gave notice to excellence in writing in a picture book format. Show Way is just astoundingly good writing (and what a wonderful year for Jacqueline Woodson!). One of the drawbacks of the giving awards only the illustration in picture books is that the hard work of writing these texts goes un-awarded. I think it is high time a major award was given to the authors who create these short but rich and deep and broad and beautiful and emotionally rich texts.

On the topic of award-winners, I am wondering what people think of "Show Way" ending up as a Newbery Honor. I found it very inventive (though the variety of styles in the artwork was a bit much) but the text is so short I was astounded that it ended up in the Newbery category. I thought it would be seriously considered for the Caldecott.
