please allow me the indulgence of pride as parent...of course....and these words of thanks to all the librarians and teachers who have loved and supported jaime's work these past few years..... the steptoe/new telent award is wonderful...and shines a spotlight on a most worthy book....(even in the relatively new area of "poetic prose" novels...there are so many published each year...and we all know how excellence can be overlooked....) so, really, it is always the book which counts....and the kids who read and grow....

but you know all of this already.....
