Hi Margaret,
I've coordinated a Book Club for this age group for the last few years. You can find a list of the books we've read on my website: http://www.brendaferber.com/reading.htm
Although most of the participants are girls, there are some boys in the group, too. The books the boys loved best were:
Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing by Judy Blume Joey Pigza Swallowed the Key by Jack Gantos Half Magic by Edward Eager Poppy by Avi Coraline by Neil Gaiman
