Hi, Twelve children's book authors will be visiting independent bookstores in Vermont as they make their way toward Kindling Words, a 3-day gathering of published authors, illustrators and editors to be held January 26-29 in Essex, VT. Presenters at this year's Kindling Words retreat are Gregory Maguire, Ellen Wittlinger, Harry Bliss and Wendy Lamb.
The authors participating in the Kindling Words Caravan are Jeannine Atkins, Elise Broach, Jane Buchanan, Nancy Castaldo, Marguerite W. Davol, Sarah Darer Littman, Lisa Papademetriou, Susanna Reich, Kyra Teis, Leda Schubert, Ellen Wittlinger, and Karen Romano Young, .
On Thursday, January 26, the Caravan will stop at Everyone's Books in Brattleboro at 11 am, Village Square Books in Bellows Falls at 12:30 pm, and Bear Pond Books in Montpelier at 3. On Sunday, January 29, a smaller contingent will visit Flying Pig Children's Books in Charlotte at 2:30. We plan to spend about an hour in each store. If you're near any of these stores, please you'll stop in to say hello.
The Kindling Words retreat is open to authors, illustrators and editors whose books have been published by members of the Children's Book Council. Literary agents and marketing professionals also attend.
About one-half of the sixty Kindling Words participants return year after year. Some use the retreat as a quiet time to work on a new project, while others meet with their editors or lead spontaneous workshops on topics that arise during the course of the weekend. Editors and agents appreciate the fact that during the weekend, authors and illustrators are not allowed to pitch ideas for new books.
