A few favorites in addition to so many wonderful books already mentioned:
(* are my very favorites)
Picture books:
Circles of Hope by Karen Lynn Williams (very moving) Adventures of Cow by Lori Korchek (very silly)
*The Problem With Chickens by Bruce McMillan (exquisite folk art set in Iceland, very humorous) That New Animal by Emily Jenkins Nora's Ark by Natalie Kinsey Warnock
Poetry: Fold Me a Poem by Kristine O'Connell George (awesome combination of poetry and art)
A little bit older kids:
Upstairs Mouse, Downstairs Mole by Wong Herbert Yee (sweet early chapter/reader with a friendship theme. Reminds me of O'Henry's Gift of the Magi, at least as much as a cute mouse and mole can remind one of O'Henry's classic story)
Seen Art? by Jon Scieszka
Fiction:
*Listening for Lions by Gloria Whelan (historical fiction, African setting in part, women in medical school) Marooned: The Strange but True Adventures of Alexander Selkirk, the Real Robinson Crusoe by Robert Kraske (very interesting)
*First Boy by Gary Schmidt (fast paced, very humorous, stayed up late to finish)
Teen:
Finding Lubchenko by Michael Simmons (fast paced, comic thriller)
Thanks for your suggestions.
