Two of my recent faves are:
>From Charlie's Point of View by Richard Scrimger
It's the story of a blind boy, turned detective. Very magical and inventive.
The Innocent's Story by Nicky Singer This is all about the victim of a suicide bomber who discovers she still "exists" in an odd form where she can inhabit the brains of living humans, including her killer. It, too, is a magical book that's brave enough to look at a disturbing topic.
