In YA fiction and nonfiction, I agree with Dean on:
Looking for Alaska John Green Inexcusable by Chris Lynch John Lennon: All I Want is the Truth by Elizabeth Partridge Hitler Youth by Susan Campbell Bartoletti
I'd also add:
Stained by Jennifer Richard Jacobson A Room on Lorelei Street by Mary E. Pearson Boy Proof by Cecil Castellucci Wings by Julie Gonzalez Light Years by Tammar Stein Valiant by Holly Black Guys Write for Guys Read, edited by Jon Scieszka
And for middle school and older: Whales on Stilts by M.T. Anderson
There are still many books that I've heard are great that I haven't gotten to yet. Isn't that always the case?
Best, Kellye Carter Crocker YA book review columnist, Des Moines Register MFA candidate in Writing for Children and Young Adults
