There is a special exhibit on Nancy Drew Books and other series books at the University of Maryland, College Park Campus, at the Hornbake Library. I visited today and it was very interesting. It looked at the ghost writer's role, the timeless quality to series fiction, and, amongst other things, what makes a series appealing readers in different eras. It was quite fascinating. They talked about how libraries and even the boy scouts did not approve of Nancy Drew and The Hardy Boys when they first came out. This particular exhibit deals mainly with the female characters in series fiction. I'm not sure how long the show is open but probably till at least the new year, I think.
