I would definately not classify the Ramona books (Cleary) as "formula." Not just my humble opinion and respect for the character, series, and author, but also due to the fact that two Ramona books were named Newbery Honor (1982 for Ramona Quimby, Age 8 and 1978 for Ramona & Her Father). I personally like Ramona & Her Father the best of all Cleary books (even more than Dear Mr. Henshaw) and wonder if another year, it might have won. However, any book would have faced stiff competition in 1978 - Bridge to Terabithia took the top prize that year! Penny
