BlankMonica said in her last post:
"My feeling is that we have to keep in mind why we read. There are so many reasons and it seems to me that all of these various series offer valid reading experiences for children that should always be supported."

I've been reading these posts with much interest -- both in the listing of the various series now on the shelves, and in the perspectives folks have about the books themselves. So often I've heard these books categorized as
"bathtub" books -- and yet clearly, series books have great value to a range of readers... for a range of readers.

I am reminded by Monica's statement of Pennac's wonderful book: BETTER THAN LIFE. He lists these "rights" in his Reader's Bill of Rights:

-the right to not read
-the right to skip pages
-the right to not finish
-the right to reread
-the right to read anything
-the right to escapism
-the right to read anywhere
-the right to browse
-the right to read out loud
-th right to not defend your tastes

If you haven't read Pennac's little gem of a book, I highly recommend it!
