I work in 2 elementary schools in Appleton Wisconsin. Series books are extremely popular at my schools.

Some of the top circulators are:

Spiderwick Chronicles Junie B. Jones Series of Unfortunate Events Hank Zipzer by Henry Winkler Rave Master (graphic novels) Harry Potter Magic Tree House

I believe the Booklist article on series fiction that Mary Ann referenced is: Series fiction and young readers. (Writers Readers) Michael O. Tunnell, James S. Jacobs. Booklist Sept 15, 2005 v102 i2 p64(2)

Very relevant to our discussion! Also of interest was a companion piece, a bit of which I have excerpted below:

Upcoming series fiction. (Brief Article)(Young Adult Review)(Book Review) Stephanie Zvirin. Booklist Sept 15, 2005 v102 i2 p65(1)

"At Booklist, the problem is even more basic: dealing with the sheer volume of fiction series and titles within series. In an effort to extend our coverage of this facet of children's publishing, we will be starting a new section of the magazine called Fiction Series in Brief, which will contain shorter reviews of individual titles within ongoing fiction series. Look for the new section's debut later this fall."

Last month's Booklist had an article on series books. If you have not seen it, you might want to track it down...
