[CCBC-Net] Formula Series

At my branch in alameda County, all the series mentioned in the first paragraph below, except the Time Warp Trio and A to Z Mysteries, are flying off the shelves. One difference is that the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys are also; it seems they are very popular with the immigrant children. Boxcar Children have slowed down just a bit but they're still circulating, unlike the American Girls which don't get asked for much. Goosebumps we can't keep on the shelf; Animorphs slowed way down for a time, but now they're getting popular again.

What we are asked for a lot and can't keep on the shelf are Manga series like Yu Gi Oh, Dragonball Z, Miracle Girl.

Formula Series books seem especially popular among my Gr. 2-4. My students are reading: Cam Jansen and Young Cam Jansen by David Adler, The Bailey School Kids by Debbie Dadey, The Magic Tree House by Mary Pope Osborne, The Junie B. Jones books by Barbara Parks, The A-Z mysteries by Rob Roy, The Time Warp Trio by Jon Scieszka. On the slightly easier level, Henry and Mudge as well as Mr. Potter and Tabby by Cynthia Rylant are popular and for the very easy, Biscuit by Alyssa Capucilli and Maisy by Lucy Cousins are in high demand.

What they leave on the shelves: Encyclopedia Brown (Sobel), Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys (though a few boys will read a few Hardy Boys) and the Babysitter Club.

Those with a few readers: Boxcar children (Gertrude Chandler Warner), Animorphs (K. A. Applegate), American Girl.

It will be interesting to see what is popular elsewhere.
