This has been a wonderful topic to discuss! Just last week my small public library offered, for the 1st time, a "Baby Time" Story session, and it was a smashing success (I was a helper w/the program). The caregivers and babies/toddlers were so involved in the activities and the children responded amazingly to the music.
As a library student, I'm always anxious to gather practical tips and hints and I've begun a bibliography of all the suggested titles that have been posted here in the last couple of weeks. I've begun to read the books myself
(in preparation of doing baby story hours myself someday) & come up w/some ways to present them.
I have a question for all you seasoned children's librarians, though ... what are your feelings on using puppets w/babies and/or toddlers? I found a beautiful hippo puppet and was thinking of using it w/the board book, "But Not the Hippopatumus," but don't want to frighten small children w/it. Any thoughts?
Thanks for all the great advice, suggestions and discussions up to this point!! I look forward to the day I can finally call myself a youth services librarian!

Thank you all for the wonderful suggestions for board books babies and toddlers love. I brought home "Brown Bear Brown Bear" and "Where's Spot?" for my grandson, and have already read "Brown Bear" at least a dozen times while he chortles and jumps up and down with delight!!
