I'm usually a step behind on the CCBC discussions, but, as the grandmother of 3 under 3, this is one discussion to which I feel qualified to contribute! I concur on almost all the books mentioned so far, and am eager to revisit the others for use with my grandsons and baby storytimes.
Byron Barton's The Three Bears prepared my 32 month twin grandsons for enjoyment of the newer The Three Bears Christmas by Kathy Duval. All the Barton books have been great hits with them and their 14 month old brother. The folk tales were probably their first introduction to books with a plot. I wish there were more! Another recent Christmas hit is Merry Christmas, Big Hungry Bear by Audrey Wood.
Bedtime at Grammy's always has to include either Lois Ehlert's Color Zoo or Color Farm (or both!) in board book format, which they can then take to bed (they've learned all their shapes from these 2), and the Sesame Street Reader, Baker, Baker, Cookie Maker by Linda Hayward.
The Boynton books are always favorites, especially when each "Oops!" in Blue Hat, Green Hat is accompanied by a tickle from Mom.
Because the older brothers are twins, we often read them the board book, Big and Little by Samantha Berger and another book about twins with photographs. I can't figure out the title, but could check with my daughter if anyone would like to know it. I just recently started reading them Two Badd Babies by Jeffie Ross Gordon. Hilarious!
Among the many other favorites, which I don't believe have been mentioned, are If You Give a Mouse a Cookie, Baby Loves by Michael Lawrence and The Seals on the Bus by Lenny Hort (my daughter worried her sons would think those were the correct lyrics to the song).
Karen Vollmar Waukesha Public Library Any opinions expressed herein are my personal opinions and not necessarily those of Waukesha Public Library.
