I'm enjoying this discussion. I'm a retired children's librarian and volunteer with Baby Talk, an early literacy collaboration. Many of my favorite books have been mentioned. Another good high contrast board book for very young babies is Look Look! by Peter Linenthal (Dutton, 1998). The black and white images are bold, simple without being boring.
