"Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" is an excellent preschool book, but also was a great baby book when my kids were little...they didn't get the humor yet, but the song-like rhythm and those bright illustrations fascinated them even then. They could follow the story in a way without knowing any words, because the text is so perfect that all of the plot elements come through in your tone as you read: The trailing off just before the "boom boom" as the letters fall, the change in pace that starts with "skit skat skootle doot..." and the parents' rush to the rescue, the satisfying quiet at the almost-conclusion, then the mischief that has to come into your voice you read about what "a" said when he was out of bed under the full moon. So they don't literally understand the specific plot elements, but the broader ideas of fun, excitement, danger, and safety all come through. Really an amazing book in many ways I think.
