[CCBC-Net] baby books

I have 21-month-old twins, so I'm also keeping a list of books suggested here, as well. Some of their current favorites are Where Is the Green Sheep by Mem Fox, Big Red Barn by Margaret Wise Brown, and We've All Got Bellybuttons by David Martin. When they were very young, I enjoyed reading Picture This. by Alison Jay. Each page features a common object
(ball, teddy bear, snail, etc.), but the gorgeous crackle-glaze illustrations are what make the book. A tiny detail, such as teddy bears as a curtain fabric, becomes the focus on the following page.

When my girls are "reading" alone, I notice that they usually push the more "literary" and "artistic" books aside for books with photographs. They love any DK board book with photographs of recognizable objects. They will call out objects they know or ask to hear the words they don't know or can't say yet. And any books with photographs of babies are a real hit!

I look forward to hearing about more books of interest to our littlest readers,

Angela Leeper
