Hi,
I second Paula's remarks about Babybug. I bought it for one of my granddaughter's first birthday (now 15 months), and she loves it.
Mr. Gumpy's Outing was our oldest son's best-loved tale when he was one and a half. We used to get it out of the library at every visit. My mother bought it for him after seeing him clutch the library book to his chest and say, "Ah, Mr. Gumpy!" in a tone of adoration.
The Cat in the Hat was one I read aloud to our granddaughter when she was less than one, and she would chuckle whenever I came to the word
"Bump!" (Now she's thirteen, and I'm reading it to her little cousins.)
Our eight-month-old granddaughter loves Henke's Kittens First Full Moon although she's teething and likes to gnaw on the corners as much as hear the story.
Golden Bear, written by Ruth Young and illustrated by Rachel Isadora, was a huge favorite with the aforementioned, now thirteen-year-old when she was around one.
I'm looking forward to reading other suggestions! Sheila Kelly Welch
