Here are topics for October - December on CCBC-Net.

We will start the October discussion early next week, after we have some time for the open announcement over the next few days.

October

First Half of Month: Write Something More! Are there any new books by _______________? Young readers often develop an affinity for a particular children's or young adult author and want to read everything they've written. As adults, we often do the same. And we all face disappointment when an author we're excited about seems to disappear from the face of children's and young adult publishing. In the first half of October, we'll focus on contemporary (living) writers whom we'd like see publish again for children and teens. Whether it's a recent first-time children's or young adult author whose follow-up book you're eager to read, or an author who hasn't written or published for youth in awhile, let us know who you'd like to hear from again.

Second Half of the Month: Scary Stories: From Alvin Schwartz to to R.L. Stine to the latest young adult vampire thriller, scary stories seem to always be in demand. How do you use scary stories in your library or classroom? Are there specific authors, titles or types of book that children and teens request over and over again? Take a deep breath for courage and get ready to talk about stories designed to tingle spines and raise hairs during the second half of October.

November

First Half of the Month: Books for Babies: We know the importance of reading to children from birth. But what makes a book especially good for sharing with babies? In the first half of November, we'll turn our attention to books for the youngest children*from birth to age 1. Whether you organize storytimes for babies, or read to a young child in your own life, we invite you to discuss what you look for in choosing books to read to babies, and what books you especially love to share.

Second Half of the Month: Formula Series Books. Are the Goosebumps books still popular? What about T.V. series spinoffs such as mass market paperbacks based on Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Have you seen the new Nancy Drew books, or the reissues of the classic Trixie Belden titles? We'll focus on formula series books during the second half of November, talking about what was popular in the past, what's popular now, and the role that this type of publishing plays in the lives of young readers.

December Favorites of the Year. Each December we invite members of the CCBC-Net community to discuss their favorite titles of the publishing year. What books published in 2005 do you find you can't stop thinking about? Are there titles you can't wait to try out in the classroom? Are there books that have already gotten a following among children and teens? Join us in December as we once again focus on our favorite books of the year.
