Here are my two favorites for the Printz award, since we're thinking about awards...
_All Rivers Flow to the Sea_ by Alison Mcghee (Candlewick). It comes out October 11, but I read the pre-pub this summer. It is just amazing -- the language is beautiful, the characters so solid I swear I actually know them, and the part of the plot about how a teen in grief tries to use sex as a floodgate is one of the most honest portrayals of what sex can really mean and be that I've seen in any YA novel in a long time.
_Looking for Alaska_ by John Green (Dutton/Penguin). It's also a wonderfully imagined and written story. And I see from the Spring 06 Penguin catalog that they'll be bringing out the paperback as part of the Speak imprint, if that gives you a sense of the book.

I'm looking to start a lunchtime reading group at our middle school. An idea I came across was to read and discuss possible Newbery Award winners. Can anyone suggest titles for us to consider?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions,
