Dotti Enderle mentioned Sherry Garland's THE SILENT STORM and Susan Vaught's STORMWITCH, (the latter set during Hurricane Camille), which are also listed on YALSA's new list of "recommended reading for teens in light of recent disaster." There are several wonderful books on this list, some of which have a regional component and some that don't. You can view the list here:

Susan Vaught is also the author of the YA novel FAT TUESDAY, set partially in New Orleans. It was published last year by OnStage, a small publisher out of Decatur, AL.
