Much of Brian Doyle's work centres around the Gatineau hills of Ottawa, Canada. I find his books particulary interesting because he explores different eras--from 1800's to the present day. So that if you read them you end up getting a good story and an impression of the history of the area. More proof that history isn't boring. Or Doyle's writing, for that matter.
