One of the titles from the 70's that fits in this category is WHERE THE LILIES BLOOM by Bill and Vera Cleaver. In this case, the children of the Appalachian Blue Ridge were trying to hide the fact that they were without parents, but their existence was not idyllic. Their secrecy was motivated by the fact that the children were afraid they would be separated from one another if the authorities found out they were living without adults in the home.
