The Owatonna Public Library had a "Waiting for Harry P" program on the night before the book's release. Because of the late hour, most of the staff assisted. We didn't do much advance advertising, just a notice in our summer brochure to invite school-aged kids with a mom or dad. Staff wore long-sleeved, hooded black "Team Dementor" tee-shirts, carried candles (mini book lights from the dollar store) and lined up in a double row to welcome attendees at the door at 10:00 PM. Later, Team Dementor gave out Hershey's kisses. (Chocolate assuages the effects of dementors, you know.)

We handed out HP stickers from our bookstore and HP glasses.

After a magician performed, we had manikin-planting, wand-making
(including chocolate-dipped stick pretzels), butterbeer, snitch-making, and lots of milling around so kids could practice the Patronus charm on Team Dementor. Hagrid drove up on his motorcycle with two (stuffed) dragons to deliver the new books.

At 11:45 PM, most of us left to march in a group 3 blocks to our Little Professor bookstore to buy books. Everyone had glow sticks and/or candles. We borrowed crossing guard equipment from one of our elementary schools. A few staff remained at the library to check out the reserved books at 12:01 AM. The library closed at 12:15 AM. About 150 attended, including some preschool kids.

Little Professor helped sponsor. Our teen volunteers helped with the crafts, giving them an excuse to enjoy themselves.

It was great!
