As I think about it, the parapet scene strikes me because I see it through Draco's eyes. He has been thinking about Dumbledore as this formidable opponent, and then he is confronted with a kind, vulnerable old man. This seems very deliberate on Dumbledore's part. If he had put up any resistance, or expressed anger, Draco would probably have had no qualms about killing him. It is Dumbledore who appears the sacrificial lamb. Draco is also presented with a contrast between D. and his Death Eater cohorts, and discovers he has been misled vis a vis Fenrir being present in the school.
Or if they are like me they choose to believe that Snape and Dumbledore conspired together... Dumbledore is not dead....and Snape is really a good guy.Didn't Dumbledore tell Malfoy that they could make him disappear? That Voldemort would think he was dead? Pollyanna? You bet, but I'm sticking to it until the next volume proves me wrong.
