INPUT FOR THE NEXT ALSC / RANDOLPH CALDECOTT MEDAL

The 2006 Caldecott Award Committee asks Association for Library Services to Children members to submit titles for consideration. The Caldecott Award is presented annually to the illustrator of the most distinguished American picture book for children published in the preceding year. The books under consideration by this committee are those with a 2005 publication date.

"Distinguished" is defined as:
a.. marked by eminence and distinction: noted for significant achievement
b.. marked by excellence in quality
c.. marked by conspicuous excellence or eminence
d.. individually distinct. The award will be announced at a press conference during the ALA Midwinter Conference in San Antonio, Texas in January 2006. The award will be presented at the Newbery/Caldecott Banquet at the ALA Conference in New Orleans in June 2006.

The committee invites ALSC members to submit titles for consideration. Please remember that these suggestions should be for a work originally published in the United States in the 2005 publishing year and whose artist is a citizen or resident of the United States.

Please send suggestions to Gratia Banta, Caldecott Committee Chair, at: GJB at gratiaarts.com Sue Sherif Committee Member
