I am loving Kerry Madden's Gentle's Holler, and the clear, but easygoing way Livy Two is portrayed. The character challenges the gender roles in her mountain family as backdrop, really, not as main- or even sub-plot, by being so completely herself. I know
I've come across other books where gender issues are handled in this way, which I find strong but gentle, and I'm sure they'll come to mind during these weeks of discussion. Carol Coven Grannick, Author Wilmette, IL
