There is something eerily fundamentalist in their views. For example, the opposition to Sophie's World seems to be that the author is interested the point of view of non-Christian thinkers.
Why don't they campaign to ban Dan Brown. There's some pretty nutty stuff in the Da Vinci Code, you know.
More seriously, the smearing of the profession is quite out of order. Librarians take their role extremely seriously, working in difficult and frequently under-resourced libraries. The fact that a librarians' outlook might differ from their own clearly doesn't concern these people. Individual or professional respect doesn't mean much, apparently.
