Lauren,

You did a beautiful job with /Our Family Tree/. My two year old was quite struck by the primate and babe page; reading it this evening, he kept talking to the page, and didn't want it turned. I think that it was because their faces are so sweet, attentive, personal. Myself, I like best the page where the human family fills in the sand-outline with shells, fish bones and seaweed... such a perfect integration of the entire story's theme.

Rereading it tonight, Ciara (age 6) said, "I think that most people think that humans are the last generation. But we AREN'T!"

I thoroughly enjoyed your comments about the research and painting process. (And I can understand the terror -- but you rose to the challenge with great style.) You are quite an expressive writer yourself -- I could imagine that wall forming with our living timeline. Thank you so much for taking time out to share your process of illustration for this gorgeous book!

Best, Maia
