I should have said there's a framed picture on the last page that shows a rather ordinary country house. The more I think about, however, the ham and football reference sounds very Jas. Marshall and familiar. It would be funny and though he was kind, he was never sentimental. There's a picture of a fireplace (and boiling cauldrun) that looks cut off at the top. Perhaps they shaved an illustration?
A correction: the inked picture he sent was entitled "Nocturnal Picture of Martha." An important clarification.
