I've really enjoyed the discussion the past two weeks, both the broader discussion on nonfiction and science and the narrower focus on science books for younger children. I wanted to suggest one of my favorite picture books that is actually a science/history hybrid, THE COD'S TALE by Mark Kurlansky, illustrated by S.D. Schindler.
Moving into the discussion of gender, I also wanted to direct attention to a wonderful new book about women's rights with a focus on Title IX called LET ME PLAY by Karen Blumenthal.
