How sad to learn that another fine voice has been silenced. James Haskins aka Jim, was a fine writer who believed so deeply in providing factual information - in a most readable form- so that young people could learn of the history and culture of the African-American. I can remeber ajim saying, "There is so much of the truth that needs to be told, that I will never have time to write a book of fiction." And he has indeed shared so much of history, done with scholarly research and written with an interesting style. We are pleased that some of his titles will remain forver within the history of the Coretta Scott King Award Boooks
