Update on PABBIS and CCBC-Net

After talking to some people in the know, we've decided this issue isn't worth the attention we've been giving it. This is an online discussion list, and while only members can participate, anyone can become a member.

As for the online archives, this has highlighted a concern for us. Very soon, we will have the technology to put the archives under password protection so only members can have access to them; however, it's important to remember that nothing you put online is secure.

For those of you who were upset by PABBIS's somewhat questionable paraphrasing of posts from our archives, once these archives are password-protected, you can feel a little bit more comfortable that only registered members will be reading your posts. But it bears repeating that people other than those who regularly participate in the discussion could be members.

At the risk of raising paranoia, we all need to remember that we never know who may be reading our posts and what use they may make of them. We are considering having members agree to terms and conditions when they join, indicating that they will not use any person's posts for any reason without the express permission of CCBC-Net, but that will offer only limited protection and isn't in place yet. We hope to have it in place very soon.

Having said all this, I don't intend to change one thing about how I participate on CCBC-Net and hope that the rest of you will feel free to express yourselves as well.
