Looking for books about abandonment

Does anyone know if there are any books (picture books preferred) that deal with children who are abandoned by their mothers. Apparently this is a problem that is much more common than most people think.
I have found books about fathers leaving. But haven't been able to find any that deal with mother abandonment without kids being given up completely to foster care or adoption. Diane
