CADDIE WOODLAWN, a 1936 Newbery Award winner by Carol Ryrie Brink is interesting in that the author WAS an orphan Brink's father died when she was 5; her mother died when she was 8.
In an interview I did with her she said: "Had I not been an orphan, CADDIE... might never have been written. I find that children ae always delighted to know that the story is true."
I find this historically interesting. l936!
