Many children probably do feel that way, but it can happen the other way around, too. Though I was raised in an agnostic household, I converted to Christianity when I was in 8th grade and am still, in my fifties, a proud member of the seldom talked about Religious Left. The truth is that there are a huge number of very different religious and spiritual experiences out there, both positive and negativie, and it would be terrific to see a greater diversity of them reflected in YA lit.
