Hi everybody, I?m new to the list and am still trying to figure out how to get this in a digest version (yes, I?ve sent three emails to the address I?m supposed to send it to and also an email to the list-serve person?hope I got the right one?asking about it.) I also haven?t been able to locate a list of what?s been said about the current topic. Is there a way to do that, before something?s been archived. Is there a list of members somewhere? I hope it?s not inappropriate that I ask these questions in this forum.
Anyway, a quick intro so I can send a response in another email. I am a journalist by training and trade?14 years as a daily newspaper reporter, most of that time for The Des Moines Register. The last six years I?ve been a full-time freelancer, writing mostly for magazines. I love being my own boss, and I often write about children?s books, authors and publishing for Pages. (If you don?t know this national books magazine, I think they do a great job covering all aspects of publishing ?for people who love books.? See www.ireadpages.com for more). I?ve spent the past 20 years writing nonfiction for adults, but all my life I?ve loved kids and kid lit
(especially YA), and so a year ago I made a commitment to that and enrolled in Vermont College?s MFA in Writing for Children and Young Adults program. I?ve just finished my second semester, can?t believe I'm half-way through! In January , I also started a bimonthly teen book review column for The Des Moines Register. I?m glad to have discovered the CCBC. A friend alerted me to the current topic because she knows I?m very interested in YA. So far I?ve enjoyed reading what people have to say, and it?s nice to have a mix of people?teachers, librarians, authors, etc.
Best wishes, Kellye
